Connecting the past and the future; Timelessness of Japanese Houses

Japan went though a drastic transformation during the Meiji Era, 1868 to 1877. Since then the coexistence of traditional culture and modern culture has had a tremendous effect on how Japanese people live. In a typical Japanese modern house, there is one Tatami room, which is usually set up as a traditional teahouse. Is that a big enough footprint to leave as an artifact of Japanese architecture? Does a house built in a traditional Japanese way, fit into the modern world? This article explores the perfect balance of traditional and contemporary Japanese houses, and maps how they will coexist in the future.
